A few months ago I mentioned that my hubby was having some dietary issues. We its been challenging to deal with his and mine. We have some of the same food related issues, but others are different. As I try to create recipes that both he and I can eat (which isn’t that easy), I hope you know that I am thinking of you all! I hope that all is well with my online friends!!!

As for now, I hope you enjoy this delicious smoothie that yes, both of us can consume! It is filled with heart healthy fats such as avocado as well as, protein in the hemp hearts and super food chia seeds. Since it’s green, it is also fabulous for St. Patrick’s Day!

Apple Pie Green Smoothie (Paleo/ Dairy Free/ Vegan/ Refined Sugar Free)

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

With the start of a new year comes resolutions. There are the usual suspects…    Get into shape, get out of debt, get organized and of coarse lose weight and eat better…

People always make the resolutions with the best of intentions. Unfortunately most of us start out great, but the enthusiasm fizzles away after a few weeks.

Why don’t we do ourselves a favour? Why not just remember that we are human and we’re not perfect. Instead of going completely gung ho then failing, make small steps towards the goals that we want to achieve. If we have a bad day or week, just start over and try again. By the end of 2016 we might just be a little closer to our goals and a whole lot happier!

So on that note, I am trying smoothies again. If you have been a reader of mine, then you may remember that early last year, I had far too many fruits with all of my smoothies and they didn’t agree with me. This time, per serving you only get a half an apple, half a tablespoon of raw honey, cinnamon that actually helps to stabilize your blood sugar, hemp hearts and sunflower seed butter for 16 grams of protein, raw ginger and green tea that have antioxidants.

Strawberry Grapefruit Smoothie (Paleo/ Vegan/ Dairy Free/ Refined Sugar Free)

Are you trying to get back into the swing of things after the summer break?

During the summer it was far easier to lounge around with the kids. Now that school is back in session, everything is far more regimented. There are so many things to get organized. Homework, clothes, lunches, dinner…

Finding it hard to get everyone ready for school and out the door?

You not only have to get the kids up (which let’s face it is hard enough for us to get up, let alone getting the kids going),  but you also have to make sure they’re dressed, eat something and get out the door on time.

Pineapple Mango Smoothie (Paleo/ Dairy Free/ Refined Sugar Free/ Vegan)

Loving the smoothies lately!!!! Being able to put fruit, veggies (don’t tell hubby, lol), protein, a healthy fat, and flax or chia into the blender and have a super easy breakfast is great! It keeps me full for hours and I can even make it the night before if I know I’ll be too busy in the morning.

I love adding in veggies now, that my hubby doesn’t know about. As long as I make it sweet enough for him, he’ll drink it happily! Remember that the veggies are our little secret!

Note: So since I actually wrote this post about a month ago, I have realized something. I bought a Vitamix a few of months ago and have been having an awesome time enjoying raw soups, smoothies etc. Unfortunately, I thought that my too much fruit/sugars problem had gone away. You see, for the past five years, I’ve had to really watch my intake of fruit and goodies. I had been limiting myself to maximum two servings of fruit and some goodies. Since getting the Vitamix, I have been having a smoothie every morning, my two fruits and goodies (Yes I have a major sweet tooth). I have been having yeast infections and headaches over the past month. Over the Easter weekend I also consumed far too much chocolate (albeit dark chocolate). I finally clued in on Sunday night, (yes sometimes it takes a baseball bat to the back of the head-my headache to realize) that the source of of problems were probably too many sugary snacks. So now I am on a sugar clean. No smoothies, fruits, treats of any kind for two weeks. My headache finally left late Monday, but my cravings were crazy yesterday. Wish me luck. Today is day three… After the two weeks I will go back to having my smoothies, but then have no other fruit and far less goodies.

Pineapple Grapefruit Smoothie (Paleo/ Vegan/ Dairy Free/ Refined Sugar Free)

Mornings are getting so much easier by adding smoothies to my breakfast recipes. My hubby is even asking for them now… Does he realize that I’m making him healthier…

It is so fast to be able to add some fruit, healthy fat and bulk to my blender and whip it up into a delicious, filling breakfast! There are so many delicious combinations…

Why would anyone go and spend money at a smoothie place when they can make them at home so economically?

Berry Smoothie (Dairy Free/ Paleo/ Vegan/ Refined Sugar Free)

I have been playing around with smoothies. Trying to find a concoction that is both tasty and will fill me up for quite a while. It also has to be full of healthy ingredients.

This is my latest smoothie! Its so tasty and easy to make on a work day. You can even make it the night before and store it in the refrigerator.

bs

These measurements are all approximate. Sometimes I add a little more or a little less of some ingredients depending on what I have on hand. I’m not a fan of banana in my smoothie. If you like banana, you could substitute one in for the avocado.

Berry Smoothie (Paleo/ Dairy Free/ Vegan/ Refined Sugar Free)

1/4-1/2 ripe avocado (depending on the size) **
1 c. berries (mix and match)
1 c. spinach leaves
1 Tbsp. ground flax (I’m sure chia seeds would work well)
1 Tbsp almond butter (or any nut butter)
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 Tbsp. honey (use maple syrup for vegan)
1/2-3/4 c. water (or whatever milk/milk free product you use)
1 Tbsp coconut oil
Put all the ingredients into a ninja, magic bullet, or blender. Blend until smooth.
Makes one large serving or two smaller ones.

** I sprinkle lemon juice on the remaining avocado and wrap it in plastic wrap.
Store it in the fridge. It will go a little brown, I just cut that part off.
